Advice and ideas to help you with your wedding gift list

A nice way to ask – wedding gift list advice.

One of the most common questions raised by soon to be married couples, is how to ask for money on their wedding gift list.

A large proportion of couples getting married already live together, so consequently have all the necessities in their home. They would be grateful for help towards a large project – a new sofa, bed or beyond that tarmac on the driveway!! Whatever it is, many couples register on forums asking how best to approach this matter.

The best ideas I have seen are cleverly penned poems telling guests why they are asking for hard cash – there are plenty of examples on the Internet for you to copy, should you not have Shakespearean blood! Alternatively, you can just do a simple forward on the welcome page of your wedding list, detailing why you have chosen to ask for money.

There will always be guests who are not comfortable to just give a cheque, perhaps they feel from their point of view, its as though they haven’t made an effort. To soften the blow, you could still add a few small gift ideas to compliment your intended purchase – plants or pots for your new driveway, cushions to go on your new sofa, or photo frames, to display your memories of your trip of a lifetime.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Your guests will be equally as concerned about wanting to give you a gift you will use, rather than it sit at the back of the cupboard, waiting for the present one to expire – a spare kettle or toaster is useful, but wouldn’t you rather…….

Most importantly, enjoy your time preparing for the most important day of your life!

Happy Listing
