Launch of unique online gift list service

For those brides and grooms that are struggling to find the right wedding list service for them, the launch of a new service may provide just the answer. www.e-weddinglist.co.uk is an independent online gift service that allows the happy couple to list whatever they like. And, because e-weddinglist is not a store, guests are free to shop around for their gift, meaning that they often save money.

Brides and grooms:
  • can mix general gifts, charity donations, honeymoon contributions on one list
  • can be as specific or as vague as they like. For example, they could list ‘a large vase’ or ‘a John Rocha glass vase’.
  • Can manage their list online – add/delete items, print off contact list to help with thank-you cards.
Friends and family:
  • Are free to shop around and buy their gift from wherever they like, often saving money
The cost-saving benefit of using e-weddinglist can be seen in some research that was carried out on 18 October 2007.  Choosing four products we compared prices on Debenhams, Wrapit, John Lewis, Argos and e-weddinglist (i.e. shopping around for the best price, anywhere).  Here are the results:

Product Wrapit Debenhams John Lewis Argos E-wedding list   Average Price Saving On average

The first people to sign up to e-weddinglist are full of praise for the service. Sarah Barratt, who is getting married in February 2008, says:

“I really like the fact that guests can see what we want but can still shop around for the best deal.  I know that as a guest myself I don't always like the recipient knowing exactly how much I've spent but I do want to buy something that they actually want so this is a really good option. I also like that our guests are not charged extortionate admin fees or percentages, I've seen sites as high as 8% which is daylight robbery!
“We'd thought of setting up a list on our own website, but I prefer having something independent of us to manage it for us.  We're also planning to ask for financial contributions to a couple of larger items, and this site will enable us to do that in a much nicer and professional-looking way than just asking for cold, hard cash.”

Penny Parrott is the founder of e-weddinglist. She explains how the service also offers a return to the traditional way in which gifts were bought for the couple:

“I wanted to create a gift list service that was not only flexible but that also put some of the joy back into the art of giving and receiving wedding gifts. As a guest, it’s so impersonal to order a gift online and then have the store wrap it and deliver it for you in a job lot with other presents. It’s so much nicer to choose a gift and to give it to the happy couple yourself.”
