Which Wedding List?

Having decided to have a wedding list to help your friends and family choose a wedding gift for you and your partner on your wedding day, there are a many different types of wedding list available to choose from.

Depending on your preferences you can:

Use a department store wedding list service
Many department stores provide a wedding list service whereby they manage your wedding list and on which you can put anything that they stock. This is has its benefits, it is quick to set up and most of your guests will be able to get to a store or shop on line where they pay for the gift and the bride and groom will receive them about a month after the wedding. You can only include items that are actually stocked by the store and often that are in season at that time. Your guests have to pay the price of the item in the store you have chosen, which can often incur a post and packaging fee too if brought online. None the less, the department store all stock a great range of household gifts and crockery making this a popular, and for many people a sensible choice.
If you would like the best of both worlds then you can use the e-weddinglist in conjunction with a department store, by listing your department store wedding list alongside other gifts on the wedding list. You can use the description to explain that you have additional items on another list and provide a link to their website.

Ask your guests to contribute towards your honeymoon
An increasingly popular option as more and more couples live together and have already furnished their houses when they get married. Despite the growing popularity of this wedding gift, some people aren’t keen and prefer to buy traditional household gifts. As a couple if you wish to accommodate for both you could use the e-weddinglist as your master wedding list and list your honey moon as one of the gifts. You can include a description on what your plans are and a link to a professional honeymoon provider, or just ask your guests for cash contributions. It is up to you. Not having used one I am not aware of what the range of gifts is like, you would need to find this out for yourselves. Your guests are limited to only buying from your chosen wedding list company, and sorry if I am being overly cynical, but someone will be paying for your ‘personalise wedding list consultant’ and all the extra services and it won’t be you. If your guests could shop around for the gifts you have chosen I am sure they could get a better deal.

Ask for cash
This is a tricky one really and I would say that the camp is divided. Many people are more than happy to give a wedding gift of cash and some prefer to buy and wrap a gift. Ideally I would suggest that the bride and groom give their guests the choice. The e-weddinglist will enable you to ask for cash gifts, and if you wish provide an explanation as to why you would like the cash. Perhaps you wish to make some home improvements or landscape your garden? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could compile a gift list with all of your favourite items from a variety of different shops, including your favourite bespoke shops in your local town. We give you a space to write a description, upload an image, put on a web site link and to enter how many of an item you would like. It is wonderfully flexible and your guests can choose where they would like to shop. Best of all worlds! Now I have described all the wedding list options here, one thing I will say is that compiling your wedding list on the e-weddinglist will take a bit of time as you have to do it yourself. However you compile your list in your own time and all the features are there to make it a straight forward process.
